Stop smoking
treatment
Below is a description
of how smoking habits are approached.
I would usually expect to see people twice in order to assist them
in becoming a non-smoker.
Initially I would
take some background information about
family,work,lifestyle etc.
I would then discuss
with the person on the one hand the reasons for smoking and on the
other hand the reasons for becoming a non-smoker.
I then explain
to a person who wishes to stop smoking a new way of thinking i.e.
that the change is largely a result in changes in belief and if the
person can begin to think as a non smoker it will be easier to make
the change as the person begins to orientate themselves towards the
change.
During hypnosis
the person will simply visualise the healthy changes happening and
I will attempt to achieve the agreement of the unconscious mind. It
can also be useful to use a metaphor story so that the person will
be able to identify with someone in a story giving an unconscious
message that the client can achieve his or her goals of becoming a
non-smoker.
I will usually
suggest that the person throws away their cigarettes and lighters
as a symbol of the change.
The second session
is an opportunity for the client to review the changes that have occurred
and to ensure that the person is still on track as a non-smoker.
Some people are
concerned that they may put on weight once they have stopped smoking-this
is addressed in the therapy and I often suggest that the time spent
on smoking can be spent on other creative activities and not on eating.
The person will often feel that they have more energy and feel less
tired.
